Final Project.

So when we sat in the class a while back everyone had a pretty concrete decision on what they wanted to do for a final.
I had my idea but it wasnt something I was all to thrilled about it was just something that came to mind, something to get a grade for.
I went to get information about the place and found out it was no longer in business, the animals weren’t the only exotic things they were selling.

So I jumped to the next thing that was easy to come up to mind and that was a site for my mom’s business, but again it wasn’t something I was to thrilled to do
Mr. Batchelder told me it really should be something I have an interest in. So I have been thinking it over and I am going to go with an interest I have.

I am going to go with a site about graffiti and how its not just random crap on the walls, how its an art form that can be appreciated just like any other art.

So I have started my concepts on that and am hoping I can accomplish to make the site I imagine in my head.

See everyone on Thursday.

Wk3 Homework.

Looking over the homework assignment the creating of the pages has me confused. We aren’t doing a PLE site, at least I didn’t get the memo, so I decided to do relative and fixed pages. As I started doing the basic coding parts I realized I wasn’t all to sure on what I was suppose to do, so I went on a looked at Batchelder’s  examples  and that just confused me a  bit more. I managed to make the pages to the best of what I could pull off, but still I didn’t understand why on Batchelder’s pages there were “.box”. Now I do recall sitting in the classroom last week, but I don’t recall anything about that. Man where the hell is my mind gone.

As for the sites I looked at…
the Art Prostitute page is one, not that I  know there will be a gallery in the site but I like the look of the gallery and would like to do something like that with CSS if at all possible. I believe that one is either done in Javascript or Flash.

2. Red Labor

The sites overall look is just appealing to me, the tape/book bindings holding the pieces together just looks so impressive. Makes me rather jealous that my attempts to do things of that nature always end up not working out or not working all together.

3 . 456 Berea St.

This site wasn’t chosen exactly for the design look of it in any way. Though I chose it because of all the useful information that can be gathered from this one page alone. The tutorials are always helpful and pretty simple to follow. He also describes things in a way that doesn’t make things overly complicated.

4. 2 Monks and a Moose

Haha, an amusing name for a website.
The simplicity of the page, helps in realizing that to be a great page you don’t have to have flashy design, amazing graphics or anything of that sort. As long as your able to get your work out there and do it in a nice enough way it can look amazing.

5.  CSS Zen Garden

This site as a whole is chosen because all of the pages are always inspiring. Always showing some crazy skills.

Art Gallery to check out.

 Art Prostitute Gallery
The gallery itself has nothing to do with design. It is traditional art, by that I mean paint and canvas, but the site itself I like. I like the simplicity of it.

Its using flash, but I recall seeing a site before doing the same thing but with CSS and I wonder if that would be possible to do.
I’ll give it a shot on my own, but if any of you happen to know a trick or two I wouldn’t mind hearing them.

This gallery btw is in Dallas, if you have nothing to do check them out. I plan to sometime.

5 Things

Everyone has something they wish to learn or to improve on. I am no different, so here are the five things I would like to get out from class.

  1. Improved coding, CSS and HTML alike.
  2. More visually impressive design.
  3. Image usage and creation.
  4. Drop down tabs.
  5. Adjusting placements for different screen resolutions.

So that is what I am interested in getting out of this class, more will probably come up later but for now this is alright.

A Design Process Reviewed.

In reading Doug Bowman’s article about his design process for web design, it dawned on me that everything he was talking about is exactly what every professor at the Art Institute has been telling me to do since day one. I just for the most part didn’t follow instructions to the fullest. I like his process it sounds like a good way to go about things especially something as important as a client project or even just a school project, which both have a lot of importance. The main thing though is it sounds like he really does sit around and let his mind wander about in an attempt to get inspiration, which is something that sounds easy enough to do but in truth can be rather difficult. I found this out while sitting and thinking at what I want my mini site to look like so that I can build it and upload it to the ftp, but it wasn’t so easy my mind would wander into other subjects like where my car keys were or were my roommate was and if he was coming home tonight or not. That I guess is just cause I have an over active mind, but after am few minutes of that and a bit of myself arguing with myself I got back on track. To get myself to really concentrate though I couldn’t be in silence so I put on some Miles Davis to help stimulate, it helps.

I like how he goes on and says,<i> “Imagery is not always necessary in design. In fact, some of the most beautiful designs use type alone.”</i>
That helps me out a lot cause I always beat myself up over what images will work for sites and now seeing that they shouldn’t take center stage will help ease that a bit.

I feel that if I use bits of Bowman’s process with chunks of my own it could make for some interesting and possibly enjoyable projects.
